Gossip Girl is an American television teen drama inspired by the popular novel series of the same name, written by Cecily von Ziegesar. Gossip Girl revolves around the lives of socialite teenagers growing up on New York City's Upper East Side who attend elite academic institutions while dealing with sex, drugs, jealousy, and other issues.
Each episode is narrated by omniscient yet unseen narrator "Gossip Girl" (voiced by Kristen Bell). Most of the main characters are private high school students, primarily consisting of Serena van der Woodsen (Blake Lively), Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester), Dan Humphrey (Penn Badgley), Nate Archibald (Chace Crawford), Chuck Bass (Ed Westwick), Jenny Humphrey (Taylor Momsen) and Vanessa Abrams (Jessica Szohr). Their family members and other recurring characters play supporting roles in the series.
The series first aired on September 18, 2007 in Canada on CTV before premiering in the U.S. a day later on The CW.[1][2] The show received the first full season order of 18 episodes of the 2007/2008 television season of the five major broadcast networks in October 2007.[3] Following the 2007–2008 Writers Guild of America strike, Gossip Girl returned on Monday, April 21, 2008 to close the first season.[4] In March 2008, The CW renewed Gossip Girl for a second season, which began on Labor Day of 2008.[5] The series will return after a Christmas hiatus on January 5th.

Not that we expected anything different, but the CW officially announced today the early pickups of six series, including our favorite here at this site.
In all, five of the network’s "signature" dramas (Gossip Girl included) and the reality TV staple America's Next Top Model will all return in fall 2009.
“As we continue to build The CW Network as a destination for young women, these six shows have clearly contributed to strengthening our schedule and our brand identity,” President of Entertainment at the CW Dawn Ostroff said.
“By securing these signature hits for next season, we further a commitment to deliver high-quality, original programming to viewers, advertisers and affiliates.”
oth Gossip Girl (now in Season Two) and One Tree Hill (in Season Six) have scored double-digit gains on Monday compared to their previous seasons.
Freshman hit 90210 has improved the network’s Tuesday lineup by double-digit increases in key demographics. America's Next Top Model, which consistently wins its time period Wednesday, will also be back for cycles 13 and 14.
Also renewed were the network’s established Thursday team of Smallville, in its ninth season, and Supernatural, which will enter its fifth season next year.
Congratulations to the Gossip Girl cast, producers and crew!
